Entourage Email Client Configuration

This document will explain how to configure Microsoft Entourage, as installed with Office 2001 for the Macintosh, to use the IMAP protocol on the Darkscape Mail

A few words about IMAP first: In contrast to the familiar POP access to email where your mail is sent to you and deleted from the server, with IMAP, your mail is stored on the mail server where it is secure and available from any computer in the state you last left it.

Setting up your Mail Account

If you are running Outlook for the first time, the assistant will pop up in the bottom right corner of your screen asking you to make Entourage your default email program. Answer yes if you plan to use Entourage as your primary email package.

After you silence the assistant with your response, go to the Tools menu and choose Accounts. The Entourage Setup Assistant will pop up. If not already entered because of your Microsoft Office setup, enter your name here. Do NOT click the right arrow to continue, but cancel the assistant by clicking on the close box in the top left corner.

Go to the main menu and choose Tools Accounts. This will open the Accounts window shown below. Click on "+ New" in the window to bring up the dialog that lets you enter and edit account settings.

A New Account window will ask you for the server type. Choose IMAP and click OK.

Name the Account "Darkscape Mail" and enter your name if it isn't entered already. In Email Address: put your entire email address username@darkscape.net. Enter your username in the Account ID field. The IMAP Server name is mail.darkscape.net and the SMTP server name is mail.darkscape.net. Click OK to finish this dialog.
